Rapper Huey, well-known for the 2006 hip hop song “Pop, Lock & Drop it,” was killed in shooting in his home city of St. Louis.
Huey, whose real name was Lawrence Franks Jr., arrived at a hospital late Thursday night suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead a short time later. Police said in a news release the musician was fatally wounded during an attack outside a Missouri home in Kinloch around 11 p.m.
According to his Instagram profile, Huey was gearing up to shoot a music video on Saturday for his new single.
Originally from Kinloch, Huey rose to fame when his hit song “Pop, Lock & Drop It” debuted in 2007 on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 98 before peaking at number six. The music video also has 50 million views on YouTube.
He is survived by his 13-year-old daughter.

The St. Louis County police said a second victim of what they believe to be the same shooting turned up at the Ferguson Police Department with a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries. He has not yet been identified.
Huey, who originally signed to Jive Records, was mourned across social media by fans early Friday morning.
There have been no arrests.
