FORMER BAD BOY ARTIST G-DEP ARRESTED FOR 17 YEAR OLD CRIME

(Born Trevell Michael Coleman on September 12, 1974 in Harlem)
G. Dep is an acronym for Ghetto Dependent

G-Dep, Who was arrested Wednesday (Dec. 15) after walking
into Manhattan's 25th Precinct and confessing to the murder of
John Henkel 17 years ago, admits that he came forth with the
startling news because he wanted to make
amends with a higher being.

"I'm just trying to get right with God," the former
Bad Boy Records signee said while being interviewed by
the 'New York Post' in jail. After the 'Special Delivery' rapper
made his confession, police officers informed him of news
that he had wondered about since Oct. 19, 1993, when
Henkel was shot: the victim had indeed died.
"I was surprised - for some reason, I really didn't think
that he died," Dep revealed. "When they told me, I was like,
'Oh, I'm not going home after this.' Since he owned up to the
crime, Dep, born Trevell Coleman, was officially charged
with murder. Manhattan District Attorney's Office
spokesperson Erin Duggan said Dep faces life in prison.

Dep admitted guilt drove him to walk into the police station
earlier this week because the tragic secret "weighed on me."
Despite doing right by the law with a confession, his family
members were against his decision to come forward.

"I told my mom and my girlfriend that I wanted to confess,
and they both told me to leave it in the past,"
he said. "[My girlfriend] is pretty peeved."

As a result of his actions, Dep must now face the fact
that he will miss out on witnessing his three children
grow up. Yet, living without a guilty conscious now
allows him to possibly experience far more
positive days to come.

"I started to wonder if all the bad things that happened
to me in my life were karma for what I did... you start
to think 'My happiness is because of someone else's
sadness.' I thought that if I turned myself in, it
might give me closure," Dep stated
